FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1) Do you have a specific method that you will use to teach me Yoruba language?
Answer: Yes. In addition to teaching you practical ways to speak Yoruba, my team and I use our tailored curriculum for beginners or intermediates (depending on your level).
2) When do you anticipate that I will become fluent at learning and speaking Yoruba with your classes?
Answer: Fluency is relative but you can be assured that you would begin to notice the improvement in your speaking within a couple of weeks of joining our classes. Do however be reminded that this is an ongoing journey because just like learning Mathematics or English language in school or at university, we would never say that I have become fluent or good enough and I do not need this subject again. Thesame goes for Yoruba language learning, our team will continue to implement all that you learn to boost your confidence to confidently speak and make sentences.
3) Will there be weekly worksheets or homework to work on before the next lesson/class?
Answer: Yes. You will be given some homework to practice at home after each lesson/class.
4) Is there a minimum contract?
Answer: No. The payment option can be cancelled at any time.
5) Will this membership be of benefit to me if my parents or friends do not speak Yoruba?
Answer: Yes, it would be of great benefit to you and it does not matter if no one around you speaks Yoruba. This membership supports all adults, provided that you are open to and interested in learning to speak the language.
6) When can I start?
Answer: As the membership is currently open, you will be granted access to the platform as soon as you join and pay for the subscription.
7) What day of the week and time will the sessions be?
Answer: Depending on the country where you are based, we will work with your availability (best day and time of the week) to ensure that the classes are in your relevant time zone. Once you register, we will collate all students' locations and get in touch for your availability and that of everyone in thesame cohort as you (for group classes).
8) Do I need to join live classes?
Answer: It would be better if you join the live classes, so that participate in the interactive sessions. All sessions are however recorded so you can watch at your convenience and as many times as you may want after each session.
9) Why are you the best persons to teach me Yoruba language?
Answer: As a very fluent, proud and native Yoruba speaking girl, I have successfully transferred this language skill to my children, many other children and adults. My eleven and seven year old sons have been raised with Yoruba language, even though they were born in the UK and have always lived in the UK. They both speak Yoruba fluently and can easily switch to English language with the British accent at thesame time.

More Than One Language
Hey, I am Abisade (but some people call me Abi).
As a teenage Yoruba girl who relocated to the UK from Nigeria over 20 years ago, the culture shock and the lifestyle differences became a reality for me especially as nobody had educated me prior about the cultural differences.
One common thing that I however observed was that many Nigerian children who were born in the UK, had migrated to the UK or to other countries around the world could neither speak Yoruba language at all, pretended not to speak it (for those who could fluently speak the language) or parents had difficulties getting their children to speak the language. This was because it was considered ‘trendy’ to speak only English language or the community language of the countries where they reside.
This was when I purposed not to only promote and encourage Yoruba language and bilingual skills among children of global migrants but to lead by example and help parents understand the benefits of their children enjoying the beauty of two or more cultures which are at their disposal.
In 2014 when I had my first child, I strategically and consciously instilled Yoruba language skill into my son. Now as a mum of two, my sons (ages 11 and 7) fluently and confidently communicate in both English language and Yoruba language despite being born and have always lived in the UK. This has immensely been contributing to developing their identities both as Nigerians (Yoruba boys) and British.
I created this membership to share the exact steps and strategies that I used with my children in order to support various individuals and households to achieve their Yoruba language skill desires.
This membership will provide ongoing support and education to ensure that we increase the number of proud and confident Yoruba language speakers globally.

When a friend from my university mentioned that we should enrol in this Yoruba language classes with Aunty Abi, I was initially very reluctant and thought that learning Yoruba language was not my priority at the time. As time went on, my friend started speaking some words in Yoruba and was constructing sentences because she had started attending the weekly classes.
